Scald Burns

Home / Our Services / Burns / Scald Burns

Scald burns occur when the skin comes into contact with hot liquids or steam, causing damage similar to a burn from fire. Common causes include hot water, boiling liquids, and steam from cooking or heating appliances. Symptoms of a scald burn may include redness, swelling, blistering, and pain.

If you or someone else suffers a scald burn, here’s what you can do immediately:

1. Cool the burn: Hold the affected area under cool (not cold) running water for 10-20 minutes or apply a clean, cool compress.
2. Protect the burn: Cover the burn with a sterile, non-stick bandage or cloth.
3. Seek medical help: If the burn is large, deep, or causing severe pain, get medical attention right away.

Avoid applying ice or creams, as they can worsen the damage.
